The UTD Tennis club is open to all skill levels, from beginners to collegiate-level players, which is why we have both a recreational and separate competitive membership option! Competitive members represent UTD (as a club, not the actual collegiate team) and play tournaments around Texas and potentially throughout the nation. Our recreational side is for anyone who wants to play tennis casually and make connections with others through the sport! We also host a “beginner court” twice a week for those looking to learn techniques, improve on skills, and play games with similarly skilled players to apply newly learned skills.

Other Information

Tryouts for the competitive team happen a few weeks into the fall semester. If you are interested in trying out, be sure to come to practice prior to tryouts in order for one of the competitive leaders to assess your skills and place you in the correct pool for tryouts.

If you’re interested in joining competitive for the spring semester, contact one of the competitive leaders, and they’ll assess you and organize a match for you to be sorted into the ladder. Joining competitive after the semester started is possible, but does incur a one tournament buffer before being able to compete.

We host practice from Monday through Thursday throughout the school year. Practice is open to all club members and is come-and-go. We run games and drills from 7pm to 9pm on court 6 (and maybe court 7 too) and offer up all the courts for free hit from 9pm to 10pm. Beginner court happens between 7pm and 9pm twice a week, consisting of games and drills.
